Basic Biology

Omuin-Variant

The Omuin variant of Dragnaels is distinct from other Dragnaels as they have been selectively bred significantly by the Stihro.

Native Region

Dragnaels are natively from a small continent (or large island) off the southwestern coast of Omuin. This island is heavily forested and covered in mountains, with massive winding cave systems. They prefer colder, mountainous climates and boreal forests because of this. Some Dragnaels have adapted to different environments, growing to prefer different regions such as jungles, plains and coasts.

Biologically

Average Lifespan: 200 years
Average Height: 5'5"

Dragnaels descend from Scaledfolk and Dragons. They are half-dragon, half-humanoid hybrids. They are bipedal humanoids with draconic snouts, large tails, and covered in scales. Due to selective breeding by the Stihro, Omuin Dragnaels have extra fat tissue under their chest scales which resemble breasts. They also have been selectively bred to have wider hips - which leads to reproductive complications (see Dragnaels Reproduction2). Even male Dragnaels tend to have slightly wider hips and fuller pecs.

Dragnaels have horns, which grow in during puberty and continue to grow all through adulthood. Dragnaels horns do not stop growing until death. During the winter months, Dragnaels horns shed and regrow their lining, having a fresh lining in the spring.

In addition to their draconic features, Dragnaels have the ability to breath different elements. These elements are fire, frost, lighting, water, acid and air, with fire and frost being the most common. There is no known connection between element and scale colour as the Dragnaels' draconic heritage has become a muddled mess. This ability is caused by a small pouch in the back of their throat, which grows magical crystals of the element correlated with their breath weapon. The pouch flexes to strike the crystals together, causing their breath attack.

Dragnaels have a 1/100th chance of having wings. These are recessive traits that have largely been bred out of the Dragnaels due to the Stihro's selective breeding. Dragnaels can have wing stubs, which can move like traditional wings but have no membranes and rarely get longer than a few inches. It is even rarer for wings to be functional - most Dragnaels wings are small and unable to support their body weight.

Dragnaels grow slowly. They are infants until 3, toddlers until 10, children until 15 and teenagers until 23. At the age of 23 they are a legal adult. They become elders at the age of 160. As they age; however, they get larger and larger, surpassing the height of most humanoids.

Dragnaels have many draconic features, such as a tail for balance (some Dragnael tails are shorter in order to take up less space), spinal ridges (these can be hard spinal growths or soft, fat-filled bulbs), pointed ears, yellow eyes with slitted pupils and claws on their hands and fingers. Claws can be many different colours naturally, but always match their horns. Dragnaels also have large dark spots on their face - no two Dragnael spots are alike, each is unique to them, like fingerprints. In the dark, these spots light up and help other Dragnaels identify each other.

Some Dragnaels grow fur on the back of their legs, the undersides of their feet, and other surfaces of their body. This seems to be correlated with the ability to breath frost, as frost-breathing dragons also have fur-like plumage.

Diet

Dragnaels are partial-omnivores.

Dragnaels do not have actual breasts thus they do not breastfeed. They eat raw meat from birth and drink more animal blood than water. As they age, they drink more water and wine than blood. Dragnaels also eat fruits, vegetables and insects, but they cannot digest gluten or dairy.

Reproduction

Due to the selective breeding of the Dragnaels, they have evolved larger hips. However, larger hips are genetically correlated with larger eggs (often twin eggs). This can put considerable stress on the Dam and cause complications while giving birth. Dragnaels typically have one to five eggs in a clutch. However, this lowers to one to three eggs for Dragnaels with larger hips.

Dragnaels have internal genitalia. When aroused, their plates split open and ooze slick. Males can extrude their phalli, however, it is possible to keep it inside their body. Dragnaels genitalia resembles draconic genitalia and are subject to extreme variance.
